The authors review literature knowledge dealing with the production of cerumen, its chemical and biochemical composition, protective and antibacterial properties as well as questions concerning heredity of individual forms of cerumen. The paper represents a basis for a wider clinical study, which is intended to deal with cerumen in greater detail.
