Summary:
The communication informs about new pieces of knowledge in the etiopathogenesis of glaucoma and on new diagnostic potentials in patients down with glauco¬ma. The present trend is to diagnose cases of glaucoma in as early stage possible before any alteration of the visual field appears, and by treatment to prevent dama-ge of the papilla of the optic nerve. Presented is detailed information about the Heidelberg retina tomography II (HRT II) and its potentials in the diagnostics of glaucoma, in the follow-up of the course of the disease and assessment of successful glaucoma treatment. On a sample of several patients adumbrated are its limits in examination and possible problems with diagnostics of glaucoma in optic nerve papillae of extréme dimensions.
