Summary:
An objective monitoring of the changes of body constitution by means of selected parameters becomes possible
under the presumption of existing representative reference standards. In view of the influence of secular trends
and acceleration, these reference data should be kept up to date. In the case of the Czech population it has been
made possible due to the all-state anthropological investigation of children and youth, which paid attention to the
Czech population from birth to 18 years of age. These investigations were made in 10-year intervals since 1951. In
this short communication the authors inform the users, especially pediatricians, about some of the results of the
6th All-state Investigation of Children and Adolescents, having been performed in 2001. The research was made
under completely different, much more difficult conditions than the previous five investigation were. In spite of
that it became possible to collect data from 59,000 probands from their birth to the age of 20 years. The authors
draw attention to new recent reference standards presented in the form of percentile graphs, which are included
in the new design of vaccination card as well as to the possibility to use the new percentile graph of stature and
BMI index issued in collaboration with Eli Lilly Company. The authors intend to publish the results at an early
occasion in a classical paper as well as in electronic form, making a practical application possible.
