Summary:

Dissecting aneurysms of the thoracic aorta are serious and always life threatening conditions. With advances in diagnostics and the development of the technical background (equipment for extracorporal circulation) it is possible nowadays to deal radically with these serious diseases. The submitted case-history presents a 46-year-old patient with chronic dissecting aneurysm of the ascending aorta and arch, operated at our department. The aortal valve and ascending aorta were replaced with replantation of the coronary arteries and replacement of the aortal arch with replantation of the major vessels of the arch.

Key words: aneurysms - thoracic aorta - surgical treatment - diagnostics.
