Summary:
A resection surgical intervention is the most successful therapeutical method applied in patients with pharmacoresistant
epilepsy. If indicated, a patient will get rid of seizures with high probability. Palliative interventions,
especially the vagus stimulation, may significantly reduce the number of seizures and relieve their
course, thus increasing substantially the life quality of patients with otherwise resistant epilepsy. In the
Czech Republic, the surgery for epilepsy has been performed with success, and its results are comparable
with those achieved by leading foreign centres. Each patient with epilepsy refractory to pharmacotherapy
is entitled to consulting about the suitability of epileptosurgical solution.
