Summary: Endoscopic mucosal resection allows to remove superficially
growing tumours of the gut by miniinvasive and
relatively safe endoscopic approach. During the procedure,
the submucosal layer beneath the tumour is infiltrated
with diluted epinephrine and subsequently the
mucosa with entire tumour is resected using the normal
polypectomy snare. The authors present a case report of
the patient with esophageal granular cell tumour treated
by the mucosectomy. Granular cell tumour is a rare, usually
benign disease with malignant course in 2-4% of
patients. There are no data in the literature about using
the endoscopic mucosal resection in the treatment of esophageal
granular cell tumour. The authors consider the
mucosectomy to be a treatment of choice in cases of superficially
growing granular cell tumours of t he esophagus.
