Summary:
Primary extracranial meningioma of nasal cavity and nasopharynx occur very rarely and their classification
is often erroneous.
In this case report of a 63 years old male patient the authors demonstrate diagnostic and surgical difficulties
of extracranial meningeoma of the left frontal sinus with intracranial propagation, compression
of the pole of frontal lobe, destruction of the orbital roof and cribriform plate, with propagation into orbita
and ethmoidal labyrinth. Only histopathology and a precise documentation by NMR and CT makes it
possible to differentiate this benign, but frequently bulky expansive lesions from other tumors of this
localization and follows to a relevant surgical treatment. The collaboration of neurosurgeon, otolaryngologist,
radiodiagnostic specialist and a histopathologist is indispensable.
Key words:
extracranial meningioma, rare tumors, paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity.
