Summary:

Objective: To evaluate the results of 210 cut-core biopsies performed with the help of a biopsy gun. Material and method: The histological samples were obtained by 16 G needle biopsy under sonographic control using a 7.5 MHz linear transducer. The clinical examination, mammography and sonography preceded the biopsy. The group of patients consists of 210 women in the age range of 26-89 years (mean age 57.7 years). Results: In 157 out of 210 patients (78.1%) the biopsy confirmed the interim diagnosis of carcinoma. In 44 cases (21.9%) the biopsy proved a benign nature of the lesion. In 9 women (4.3 %) an open biopsy was necessary to make the diagnosis. The article contains indication criteria as well as possible contraindications for this invasive diagnostic method. No serious complications were recorded. Conclusions: Cut-core biopsy is a method to achieve sampling from the breast lesion for determination of the histological diagnosis with a high effectiveness (95.7%).
