Summary:
The author presents a reniew of research experiences with psychoeducation programmes in complex treatment of schizophrenia in Slonakia. The hrst part discusses definitions of psychoeducation programmes and other related terms, definitions and goals of psychoeducation, efficacious factors and research on efficacy of psychoeducation programmes. Next, importem theoretical sources of psychoeducation - theories of vulnerability and expressed emotions are discussed followed by descriptions of fine innestigations on schizophrenia and schizophrenia-related psychoses done in Slonakia in the period 1996-1999. These psychoeducation programmes expended information about the disorder, led to better compliance and, if included also to improned social skills. Cognitine functions seem not to be affected by shon-term program, me enen if focused directly on training of cognitine functions. The area of experiencing and coping with illness and its impact on compliance gines most contradictory results. Conclusion: The need for further research in this promising area, possible suggestions discussed.
