Use of New Antiepileptic Drugs in Other (Non-epileptic) Indications

Summary:

       New antiepileptic drugs are because of their pharmacological effects used in clinical practice not only in epilepsy but also in other neurological indications where they are most frequently used for effective suppression of neuropathic pain, neuralgias and migraine. Moreover, their favourable effects were described also in other neurological symptoms and syndromes so far treated with an inadequate effect. The review presents brief information on the effect of gabapentin, lamotrigine, topiramate, vigabatrin, felbamate, tiagabine, and levetiracetam. From the aspect of evidence-based medicine basic data are presented on the designs of published studies.
