The authors describe a rare anomaly of developmental heterotopia of thyroid tissue in a female patient. The anomaly was clinically manifested only at the age of 39 years by deglutition difficulties and the sensation of a foreign body in the throat. For diagnosis in addition to classical examination ultrasonography of the neck was used, scintigraphic exami- nation and computer tomography. Treatment involved complete removal of the accessory thyroid gland. In the conclusion the authors mention other rare localizations of an accessory thyroid gland.
