Summary:
Magnetic resonance (MR) has become an acknowledged technique for the examination of vascular
system. The older non-contrast technique time-of-flight (TOF) was improved. Both methods are still
used together with the other non-contrast technique of phase contrast (PC) predominantly in
neuroradiology and for the quantification of flow rate. Contrast MR angiography (CE-MRA) is
a novel technique, which has become competitive to classical digital subtraction angiography (DSA)
especially in the area of aorta and peripheral arteries. CE-MRA is a non-invasive technique and
contrast compounds employed are not nephrotoxic and induce minimum allergic complications. An
important factor in MR angiography is the use of the least possible size of voxel (1 mm3 and less) in
order to exclude overvaluation of possible stenosis.
