Summary:
Nicotine replacement therapy doubles the success rate in smoking cessation during all intervention levels – so its
effectiveness is higher with the most intensive support. The patient can choose the NRT form since the effectiveness
does not differ substantially. Nicotine replacement therapy should be offered to each nicotine dependent smoker
willing to stop. In the case ofab stinence the treatment should be taken at least 6 to 8 weeks.
