Summary:
Carcinoma of the larynx accounts for 2.2% of all malignant tumours in men and 0.4%
in women. From the microscopical aspect more than 90% of laryngeal carcinomas are of the
squamous cell type. The objective of the investigation is clinical and pathological evaluation of the
relatively rare incidence of biphasic basaloid laryngeal tumours and in the case-record of one patient with basaloid carcinoma they describe the clinical and histological finding, histopathologi-
cal differential diagnosis and treatment. Basaloid carcinoma is a very malignant laryngeal tumour,
the unusual character of which is emphasized by the presence of sarcomatoid changes. Immunohis-
tochemical examination confirmed the epithelial origin of the tumour. It is a metatypical transfor-
mation of the epithelium into the sarcomatoid component. The application of modern examination
methods such as immunohistochemistry assist a more accurate histopathological diagnosis and
more accurate prognosis from the clinical aspect.
