Summary:

Ventriculo-peritoneal (VP) and ventriculo-atrial (VA) shunting are accepted as a standard therapy for hydrocephalus, even endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy has become a definitive treatment in cases of occlusive hydrocephalus. Malfunction of shunt systems frequently leads to surgical revisions where complication rate reaches 60 % in the long term. Ventriculo- cholecystic shunting is less known as an alternative procedure beside other possibilities with pleural, peritoneal, ureteral and salpingeal drainage exist. The presented case of a well tolerated gallbladder shunt with three-year follow-up may encourage the more frequent use of this easy procedure in problem affected patients.

Key words: ventriculo-cholecystic shunting, ventriculo-gallbladder shunt, hydrocephalus
