Summary: One of the serious conditions complicating the use of hormonal contraceptives are coagulopathies
which lead to the development of deep venous thromboses of the lower extremities and embolization
into the pulmonary artery. Thrombopathies may however develop in young women at unusual sites,
most frequently intracranially - then the neurological symptoms may be ascribed to a different
etiology. In the submitted paper the authors present cases with complications of hormonal therapy
examined at the Radiodiagnostic Clinic in Plzeň in 1997 to 1999 - twice isolated thrombosis of the
deep veins of the leg, four times pulmonary embolization and four times intracranial venous
thrombosis.
