Summary:
The aim of the paper is to inform Czech neurologists on the proposal of the Movement Disorders Society
on a clinical classification of tremors. The classification is based on the distinction between rest,
postural, simple kinetic, and intentional tremor. Additional data from a medical history and the results
of a neurological examination can be combined into one of the following clinical syndromes defined in
this statement: enhanced physiological tremor, essential tremor, primary orthostatic tremor, task – and
position – specific tremors, dystonic tremor, tremor in Parkinson’s disease, cerebellar tremor, Holmes’
tremor, palatal tremor, drug-induced and toxic tremor, tremor in peripheral neuropathies, or psycho-
genic tremor. The features differentiating conditions similar to tremor – some types of myoclonus and
epilepsy – are discussed. We hope that this paper provides a basis for better communication among
clinicians working in this field of neurology.
