Summary:

Virus of hepatitis D is a unique animal satellite virus till now known who needs for its transfer and replication the presence of hepatitis B virus. Infection by hepatitis D virus is in Czech Republic very uncommon. The result of antiviral treatment in patiens suffering from hepatitis D is not satisfactory. Interferon alpha in higher dosis (10 MU three times a week for 12 months) is recommended. The authors managed a female patient from Ukraine for 52 weeks by interferon alpha. During treatment neither transient disappearing of serum viral nucleic acid (HDV RNA) nor serum alaninaminotransferase activity normalization were mentioned. Due to neutropenia a significant reduction of interferon dosage was introduced.
