Summary:

Purpose: Cystic adventitial degeneration is infrequent but important cause of intermittent claudications. The possibilities of diagnostic imaging and percutaneous treatment are discussed. Material a method: Cystic adventitial degeneration of the popliteal artery was demonstrated by DSA in a patient with rapidly progressing calf intermittent claudications. The diagnosis was confirmed by MRA. The patient was treated by percutaneous USguided aspiration. Results: After repeated percutaneous aspiration color duplex sonography showed no relevant stenosis, the patient was symptoms free. MRA confirmed the sonographic finding. Conclusion: Percutaneous US-guided aspiration is minimally invasive, safe and effective way of treatment of this rare disease.
