The authors deal with the contribution of irrigographic examination with measurement of anorectal angle according to Schiessel. This method significantly contributes to decision making of the surgeon on the operation tactics in patients with rectal cancer, especially in the medium and distal third. The contribution describes the technique of examination and presents the results of a three-year study during operations on rectal cancer with particular attention to the sphincter-saving interventions in relation to the tumor localization.
