Treatment of Osteoporosis by a Combination of Calcium. Fluoride and Osteogenon
KOCIÁN J.

1. interní klinika IPVZ, FTN, Praha,

Summary:

The author compared three groups of patients suffering from osteoporosis treated for one year with calcium and fluorides (Tridin) N=51, Osteogenon alone (N=67) and a combination of Tridin and Osteogenon (N=43). While the annual increments of density of the spine assessed on a DEXA apparatus were after Tridin +6.1% and after Osteogenon +4.75%, the same increments on the proximal femur are only +3,7% and 3.2%. After a one-year combined treatment with Tridin and Osteogenon the density increments of the spine are +7.6% and on the proximal femur 5.98%. Both increments differ significantly from those after treatment with separate prepara- tions. During the follow up period only one new fracture (Colles fracture) occurred in the group treated with Osteogenon. Despite higher costs for the patients this combined treatment is so far most effective as regards mineralization of both sites and a marked decline of new fractures.

Key words: osteoporosis - treatment - bone density (DEXA) - fluorine and calcium - Osteogenon
