Summary: Traumatic tetraplegia is a fundamental change in life and calls for permanent adaptation of the patient
and his family. An enormous potential as regards improvement of the quality of life of the injured is
reconstruction of the function of the upper extremity. Reconstruction of the hand grip from the
functional aspect shifts the level of the injured spine by several segments lower. Surgical reconstruction
must be an integral part of the arsenal of comprehensive care of tetraplegic patients.
