Summary: The aim of the article is to describe the basic principles of the ultrasound imaging with characterization
of its elementary modes and their artifacts. Furthermore to depict the new possibilities
of ultrasound imaging and their use in the clinical practice and to summarize the main ways in the
evolution of the ultrasound equipment for the near future.
