Summary:
Ageing is an irreversible process that is by nature a part of an individual’s
ontogenesis. It is characterized by morphological and functional changes. In general, a change
of a structure results in a change of a function. Life consists of separate developmental stages,
each of them having its distinctive structural and functional changes. This applies for oral cavity
too.Teeth are often the last remains of a human body that can endure for ages and render useful
information about human beings, since they differ from most of body tissues in their limited
regeneration potential.
There are only few exceptions, namely some animal species that have preserved the regeneration
potential of hard dental tissues.
