Meeting Milk and Dairy Product Rations in Catering Facilities for

Summary: The district hygiene station Karviná guides by its systematic methodical super-
vision, control activities and motivation in a significant way catering facilities for
children and youth. With the support of the Institute DANONE we implemented
in 2000 the project „milk jar“ and thus extended the intervention for further
optimalization of milk and calcium intake by the following objectives:
1. Optimalization of milk and dairy product intake in school catering
2. Education and motivation of teachers on milk and dairy products for health
3. Positive influence on the dietary habits of children via school.
Our paper is focused on the first objective of the project - i.e. to influence the
intake of milk and dairy products during the children stay in preschool and school
facilities to ensure meeting of the recommended calcium allowance.
For evaluation of the effect basic information was prepared on the consumption
of milk and dairy products per month in all involved catering facilities. The total
monthly consumption per head per day was then related to the „milk ration“ with
final evaluation of results and evaluation of the best catering establishments in
the district.
