With the ageing of the population and the longer life span increases also the number of disorders, in particular dementia. A serious complication of the syndrome of dementia are behavioural disorders, in particular violent and aggressive behaviour. The authors discuss therapeutic strategies in acute/persistent, non-psychotic and acute/persistent psychotic violent behavior by means of antipsychotics, beta-blockers, benzodiazepines and thymprophylactics.
