Summary:
Hyperhomocysteinemia is at present time respected as a prominent risk factor for premature development of
cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. However the data about significance of this risk factor in childhood and
adolescence are still missing. In our previous study on juvenile hypertension the markers of homocysteine (Hcy)
metabolism were included and during long-term monitoring of patients suffering from primary hypertension
have been compared with healthy control normotonics. The results of our study are presented as new reference
values for lipids, insulinemia, glycaemia, homocysteinemia and critical vitamins (folate, cobalamin and pyridoxine).
In an group of patients with juvenile hypertension a significant by higher frequency of hyperlipidemia,
hyperinsulinemia, hyperhomocysteinemia as well as deficiency of folate was observed compared to healthy
population. Relation between the above mentioned parameters and severity of hypertension was also proved. In
patients with fixed juvenile hypertension on drug therapy the pathological findings were evidently expressed.
Key words:
homocysteine, hyperhomocysteinemia, juvenile hypertension, folate.
