The authors present an account on 18 cases of successful endoscopic drainage of the biliary pathways by ERCP implemented in 1995 – 1996 in 9 patients after transplantation of the liver. Indication for diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP were posttransplantation complications in the region of the biliary anastomoses, i.e. stenoses and so-called biliary leak. In all instances these complications were resolved by the endoscopic route and this led to a better prognosis and quali- ty of the patients' quality of life. The authors draw attention to some pitfalls of diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP in patients after transplantation of the liver and submit their own experience with their solution.
