Summary:
In 42 patients suffering from recurrent nerve paresis with different causes we
stimulated directly the inner laryngeal muscles with a surface stimulating electrode using square
wave electrical stimuli of duration 0.2 ms, intensity from 5 to 20mA and frequency 2 and 32 Hz. This
treatment was succesful in 66 % of the patients with total recovery in 45 % and some improvement
in 21 %. Possible mechanisms of the positive influence of this kind of treatment are discussed.
