Summary:
Rickets is the term applied to impaired mineralization at the epiphyseal growth-plate, resulting
in deformity and impaired linear growth of long bones. Rickets may be classified as vitamin
D-related, secondary to low dietary calcium and those due to hypophosphatemia. These etiological
factors may be inherited or acquired. The most commonly inherited form of rickets is X-linked
hypophosphatemic rickets. As a review authors present some aspects of this disease.
