The author deals with system Vector use in a periodontitis therapy. The author characterizes Vector to be a system utilizing ultrasound energy in a very careful and effective way. Up to 70 patients aged from 40 to 60 years, who suffered from periodontitis that had not been treated so far, without serious systemic diseases in personal history and with a comparable oral hygiene level, were engaged in the clinical study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of 35 persons each. The first group was treated with a Vector System, the second with hand instruments (special curettes). A tooth with the worst periodontal status from each sextant was chosen to be observed during the study. In each patient,PBI and periodontal status (periodontal pockets, looseness of teeth, furcations, gingival recesses, attachment level) was checked before the treatment and at each recall. The first recall was conducted from eight to ten weeks after the treatment, the next recalls followed after every 3 months until two years after the first treatment. Up to 27 patients treated with Vector System and 23 patients treated with hand instruments were still present in the observed group at the end of the study. When compared, no significant differences between the two groups were found. In the patients who dropped out of the observed group, the cause thereof was analyzed.
