Summary:
Takayasu’s arteritis is a non-specific inflammatory disease of the aortal wall and its main branches.
Its occurrence is rare in our country.
The authors present four cases of young women with the diagnosis of Takayasu’s arteritis examined
in 1997 with analysis of imaging diagnostic methods, morphological findings, differential diagnosis
and treatment. Ultrasonography, computed tomography (including spiral CT), angiography and
magnetic resonance were used in the evaluation of our patients. Typical changes as arterial wall
thickening, stenosis, occlusions, aneurysm formation and calcifications in the aortal wall were
found. Transluminal angioplasty is considered an acceptable therapeutic method.
Key words:
Takayasu’s disease - transluminal angioplasty - Crohn’s disease
