Summary:
Views on a direct relationship between chronic pancreatitis and carcinoma of the pancreas are
not unequivocal, however, in recent years this problem was again brought up. The authors found
in a group of 191 subjects with the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis and dispensarization for
a period of more than 5 years, carcinoma of the pancreas in seven subjects, i.e. in 3.7%. Except one
patient chronic pancreatitis had an alcoholic etiology. Six subjects with carcinoma of the pancre-
as attended the surgery because their subjective symptoms changed (85.7%), in one instance
a tumourous growth was suspected from the sonographic examination although the patient did
not report any major complaints. The authors emphasize the necessity of regular dispensarization
of subjects with chronic pancreatitis, in particular when the disease has a prolonged duration, i.e.
more than 5 years.
