Summary:
The authors assessed in the presented study the state of dentition and oral hygiene in the age
group of 60–64-year-old subjects and at the same time they tried to obtain an idera of the position
at the onset of the third millennium. The examination was made at the Second Stomatological
Clinic in Prague in 1993. The authors investigated groups of 100 patients aged 60–64 years
and 100 patients aged 48–52 years, i.e. those who will belong into the group of seniors from
2005 onwards. General information was obtained from the case-history, the general health
status was assessed and the patient’s attitude to oral health. The authors examined the
dentition and assessed the standard of dental treatment. From the investigation ensues that
in the older generation we mainly rectify what was neglected by physicians or patient in dental
care during their productive age. In the group of citizens who will reach retirement age in 2005
or later, and who at present have adequate physical and mental powers, and let us assume also
adequate economic means, it is important to focus attention on permanent, aimed and effective
prevention.
Key words:
gerostomatology – state of dentition – DMF index – dental care.
