Summary:

Salivary anti-Helicobacter pylori (HP) antibodies assessment is a non-invasive test. Salivary glands produce IgA antibodies. IgG and IgM anti-HP antibodies are formed in blood. The aim of this study was to evaluate salivary IgG anti-HP antibodies and to correlate the values with serum IgG anti-HP antibodies. Serum and non-stimulated saliva were taken before upper GI endoscopy in 127 patients. There was a significant correlation between serum IgG anti-HP antibodies and IgG saliva anti-HP antibodies (r = 0.521; p Ł 0.0001). Both sensitivity and specificity are satisfactory. Salivary IgG anti-HP antibodies estimation is a suitable non-invasive test for HP diagnostics.

Key words: Helicobacter pylori, non-invasive diagnostics, salivary antibodies against Helicobacter pylori.
