Summary:
Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome characterized by necrosis of striated muscle cells and release of theirs content
into the blood circulation. The author emphasizes interdisciplinary character of the clinical syndrome
and presents a case report of twenty-six year-old woman that was hospitalized after unusual physical activity
(spinning) at internal department. General information on the pathophysiology, causes of the disease, clinical
picture and management of the syndrome are summarized. In conclusion the author speculates on the
examination of metabolic myopathies, which may be rare, however, important causes of rhabdomyolysis. Significance
of potential detection of inherited myopathy bare on the fact that prognosis of part of the patients
may be influenced by preventive treatment.
