Summary:

Objective: An analysis of some defined parameters of direct and indirect costs of M. Crohn is presented. Methodology: This analysis was made in the group of 54 patients. The retrospective study was made in 1999 and 2000. The group was divided in to 3 subgroups from the pharmaconomical point of view: A – non-complicated, B – with chronic corticosteroids treatment and C – with surgery on account of the disease itself or its complication. The real costs were taken into account for drug treatment in the group of hospitalized patients, in the other areas the official costs were respected. Results: The average costs were 44 744 Sk per year. The average of yearly costs in the subgroup A for 1 patient were 20 451 Sk, in the subgroup B it was 63 586 Sk and in the subgroup C it was 64 575 Sk. The highest costs per patient in the subgroup B were 184 400 Sk and in subgroup C 264 800 Sk. Conclusions: The most appropriate form for the subsequent pharmacoeconomical studies in the Slovak Repub- lic should be as prospective studies with outcomes expressed in non-financial units, such QALY, e.g. quality adjusted life years, designed as cost of utility studies.
