Distraction osteogenesis is a very effective method for prolongation of a hypo- plastic mandible. The authors present a report on the treatment of five children with this defect where a total of six distractions was made. The occlusion relations in these patients and the aesthetic appearance improved. With regard to the short period which has elapsed since treatment (maximum 1.5 years) these results must be considered preliminary.
