Summary:
The authors describe a case report of a 27-month old patient of Vietnamese nationality who was
hospitalised for impaired consciousness, quadriparesis, axial hypotonia and breathing disturbances.
The admission was preceded by three days of prodromal symptoms with fever. Brain CT on the day of
admission showed symmetrical bilateral foci of periventricular bleeding. After evaluating the clinical
and laboratory findings and brain imaging, the case was closed as acute necrotizing encephalopathy
in a combined viral infection.
