Summary:
The authors present results of research in the experiences of Czech patients who had undergone
bone marrow transplantation. Qualitativemethodology based on non-structured interviewswas
used in the research. Bone marrow transplantation is a serious event in the life of the patient.
The method sets high demands on adaptability of the patient; health care providers and family
have also an important role. In interviews several topics appeared: uncertainty, anxiety and
fears, important role of information, ways of coping with uncertainty and fears, ways of coping
with demands of therapy, role of physicians and role of the family.
