Summary:

The authors present the case report of a 14-year girl who tried to solve her family and school problems, but especially the feeling of isolation and desolation in a suicidal attempt by the abuse of anti-depressive drugs. At the time when she ingested the drugs she had a mobile phone, which she used to call to their close people and say good-bye to them. It was just the mobile telephone signal that helped the police to find the girls and save her life. At the present time adult people often complain that children are given mobile phones as early as at the school age only to avert their attention from their common activities. The mobile phones and their operation is rather costly. This condition nevertheless provides certain advantages during hospitalization. It used to be difficult to contact family especially in cases of emergency, when a certain intervention was necessary and parents were to be informed. In our experience we may confirm that at the present time more than half of hospitalized school children possess a mobile phone. In this case the sending of SMS played a key role in finding the girl during a suicidal attempt.

Key words: dysfunctional family environment, suicidal attempt, mobile phone
