Summary:
The authors have examined a total of 46 patients with advanced neuromuscular illness, who were
considered for commencement of home ventilation care. The authors present 5 examination methods
(clinical scoring systems, measurement of pulmonary vital capacity, examination of inspiratory pressures
and arterial blood gases, polysomnography) and a total of 14 measurable parameters. The authors
have confirmed the feasibility of using new methods of inspiratory pressure measurement in clinical
practice. The authors have assessed their impact on the correct timing and start of ventilation support.
