Summary:

Palatal myoclonus is a very rare disease, characterized by rhythmic contractions of the soft palate accompanied with acoustic effects. Authors describe a case of 43-year-old women with slowly developing bilateral soft palate clonus with an unpleasant acoustics accompaniment. She was treated with botulinum toxin type A (40 units per a single dose) in two bilateral injections into the levator veli palatini muscle. The third day after the treatment all signs of disease disappeared. As an unwilling effect a nasolalia appeared, which lasted about three weeks. The case illustrates the first use of type A botulinum toxin for the treatment of palatal myoclonus in the Czech Republic.

Key words: palatal myoclonus, type A botulotoxin
