Diagnostic Possibilities in Parenchymal Lesions of the CNS by Ultrasound
Školoudík D. 1 , Majvald Č. 1 , Chudoba V. 2

Summary:

Transcranial ultrasound diagnosis is a rapidly developing non-invasive method not only for examina- tion of intracranial haemodynamics, detection of vasospasms and microemboli but also for the diagnosis of parenchymal cerebral lesions. The authors draw attention to the possibility of transcranial color-co- ded duplex sonography (TCCS) in the diagnosis of tumours, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and intracerebral haemorrhage. During a 16-month period they examined 528 patients where it proved possible to diagnose all AVMs (4 patients) and intracerebral haemorrhage (5 patients) and 93 % tumours (14 patients). By means of TCCS they diagnosed for the first time 50 % AVMs and 30 % tumours in patients hospitalized with this diagnosis at the neurological department during the last 16 months.

Key words: transcranial color-coded duplex sonography, cerebral tumours, arteriovenous malformati- ons, intracerebral haemorrhage, ultrasound
