Summary:

The lamina terminalis is an anatomical structure that has again attracted the attention of neurosurgeons. The present complex treatment of SAH caused by a rupture of an intracranial aneurysm is a typical teamwork based on the accessibility of modern diagnostic methods, microsurgical and endovascular techniques and good postoperative care at ICUs. The reduced incidence of post SAH hydrocephalus due to opening the lamina terminalis has been published recently. Excellent knowledge of anatomical and micro-anatomical relationships acquired at cadaver dissections and verified during operations is necessary for a wider clinical application. The authors have reported about macro-anatomical relationship focused on the anatomical definition of lamina terminalis and dealt with the neurovascular dependences of this region. They have observed neural, vascular and neurosecretory tissues in histological findings. The data were verified by studying 24 cadavers. The lamina terminalis were opened in more than 40 operations.
