Summary:
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the preparation Gasec (omeprazole 20 mg) combined
with Klacid (clarithromycin 250 mg) and Entizol (metronidazole 250 mg) on eradication of Helico-
bacter (H.) pylori infection with the intention to assess the therapeutic effect of the preparation
Gasec 20 (Mepha Lds. Co.) which was not tested so far in eradication treatment.
Patients and methods: Combined treatment with omeprazole 2×20 mg (Gasec 20), clarithromycin
2x250 mg (Klacid, Abbott Co.) and metronidazole (Entizol, Polfa Co.) was used for treatment of
a total of 82 patients where prior to treatment in the gastric mucosa by the rapid urease test
and/or histologically H. pylori was detected. The group comprised 67 patients with non-ulcer, i.e.
functional dyspepsia (81.7 %) and 14 patients with duodenal ulcers (17.1 %) and one with gastric
ulcers (1.2 %). The success of eradication was evaluated four weeks or longer after treatment the
had stopped, in all patients histologically and in 62 patients also by the urease test.
Results: H. pylori was eradicated in 75 patients (91.5 %). Side-effects were recorded in 35 patients
(42.3 %), most frequently mild gastric or intestinal dyspepsia and aftertastes. In one patient treat-
ment was discontinued because of marked gastric dyspepsia (1.2 %). All side-effects disappeared
after termination of treatment.
Conclusions: Gasec 20 (omeprazole 20 mg) is under our conditions comparable as to its effective-
ness in combined antihelobacterial treatment with combinations of other preparations of proton
pump inhibitors.
Key words:
Helicobacter pylori – treatment – omeprazole – Gasec 20 – clarithromycin –
metronidazole – functional dyspepsia – duodenal ulcer
