Summary:
The aim of the paper is to show the possibilities and contribution of ultrasonographic examination
of eye bulb by the all-bodyUSGdevice in a group of 309 child patients. The ultrasonographic findings
obtained were compared with ophthalmological findings and clinical course; control ultrasonographic
examinations were subsequently made at frequent intervals. Serious clinical conditions
were subjected to surgery and the ultrasonographic examinations could then be compared with
operation protocols. The results of othermethods of visualization, i.e.CT and MR,if performed, were
also used for comparison and for the determination of the yield of ultrasonographic examination of
the eye bulb. The results indicate that the most frequently occurring pathological conditions of the
posterior segment of eye bulb can be univocally visualized by an all-body USG device. The ultrasonographic
examination of eye bulb represents an example of practical implementation of protection
against ionizing radiation, which is presently growing due to population load from medical exposures.
Ultrasonographic examination of the eye bulb is apparently the most informative and mostly
frequently usedmethod as the final decision method of visualization in patients of the child age and
its contribution is of far reaching importance.
Key words:
