Summary:
Portal hypertensive gastropathy is a term for describing
endoscopic changes of stomach mucosa formed by typical
mosaic like pattern with or without red spots.
Histologically is characterised by dilatation of mucosal
and submucosal capillaries and venules by venous congestion
without presense of inflammatory changes.
Clinically it can cause acute or chronic gastrointestinal
bleeding. We are summarising contemporary knowledge of
PHG and describing our own group od 82 PHG patients.
According to our results, we can confirm, that appearance
of PHG is closely bound with presence of portal
hypertension, but the value of portal pressure is not influencing
the severity of PHG. The most frequent cause of
PH and PHG also in our country is liver cirrhosis, mostly
caused by alcolol induced injury.
Key words:
portal hypertensive gastropathy, liver cirrhosis,
gastrointestinal bleeding, betablockers
