Summary:
The authors examined, using the method of digital subtraction dacryocystography 60 patients with
obstruction or impaired function of the efferent lacrimal pathways and present some normal and
pathological findings pertaining to the lacrimal pathways.
Digital subtraction dacryocystography makes better and more detailed visualization of the efferent
lacrimal pathways possible, in particular in their proximal part, as compared with conventional
dacryocystography. This is important for more accurate assessment of the required surgery of the
lacrimal pathways and its prognosis. An advantage is also the possibility to store the picture in the
memory of the apparatus and the digital processing, as well as a smaller radiation load of the lens.
