Summary:
Intracranial aneurysms, both ruptured and unruptured, still represent a major challenge for neurosurgeons
who are in charge of treating such patients. Endovascular techniques have become an alternative to classical
neurosurgical treatment of aneurysms in the last decade. The purpose of this article is to review knowledge
about intracranial aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, complications of subarachnoid
hemorrhage, and the treatment modalities applied. The extent of the text does not allow the detailed analysis
of all aspects of aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage, this review represents the basic knowledge in
this field. The importance of endovascular techniques is emphasized. The main randomized studies in this
field are described. Finally, the basic recommendations are presented.
